About Miniature Donkeys
1. Miniature Donkeys Have a Long Gestation Period
A miniature donkey’s pregnancy lasts approximately 11 to 14 months, with an average gestation of about 12 months (365 days).
2. They Are Herd Animals
Donkeys are highly social and thrive with companionship. They should not be kept alone and do best with another donkey or compatible equine friend.
3. Miniature Donkeys Are Smaller Than Standard Donkeys
A miniature donkey measures 36 inches or less at the withers (shoulders) when fully grown.

With proper care, miniature donkeys often live 30–40 years, making them a long-term commitment.

I purchased two Jenny donkeys from Sweet Mini J’s about 4 years ago, Hattie and Stella. Prior to that decision we were welcomed on the farm to visit and meet their other donkeys which helped confirm our love for them. When the girls were born we were able to come and meet them and their mamas. They delivered the girls to our farm and we have remained in contact since! Anytime I have an issue or question, Lacie is quick to assist. I greatly appreciate all they have done and continue to do in the wellbeing of the donkeys!

Because our foals are raised with individual care and we produce a limited number each year, availability is often reserved well in advance. Joining the list secures your place in line while giving us the opportunity to learn more about you, your property, and the home you’re planning to provide.

Schedule your Farm Visit

It depends on the dog. While some donkeys coexist peacefully with calm, respectful dogs, they can be very protective and may chase or kick unfamiliar or aggressive dogs. Introductions should always be gradual and supervised.iption

Yes. Like horses, their hooves continuously grow and should typically be trimmed every 6–10 weeks by a qualified farrier. It is also not hard to learn how to trim them yourselves if interested. We trim all our donkeys’ feet and can give you pointers.
